How did I get into dragon boat racing? All in the name of charidee, mate - I spent 7 years losing in the annual charity event at Willen Lake, and decided that I would give losing properly a try with Secklow. We still lose quite a lot, but with infinitely more style.

What I love about Secklow is that everyone in the team is so good looking. Honestly, there are some really ugly people in some of the other crews. We are working on the motto “Welcome to Secklow Hundred – the best looking team in the National League. We will take anyone into our club, but you may have to stand at the back in team photos”. It is catchy. Also we are a very tactile and affectionate group – lots of group hugs and kisses. With the odd spot of stroking and fondling…

I am now the self-styled boat ‘model’. This has given something else for the rest of the team to take the piss out of…..after dodgy technique and rhythm; missing training with a hangover; sensitive hair…
